Resources by Topic

Feb 20, 2010 - work in progress  ... Check back next week for an edited introduction and some TERRIFIC lists of resources by topic!

One of the most common requests I receive is a "how-to" book detailing exactly what we "DO" in our homeschool each day.  Although Homeschooling for the Rest of Us was created to ENCOURAGE homeschool families and deal with the myths of perfection that create so much stress for homeschoolers, one of the secondary goals of the book was to share our educational philosophy:  academic excellence, moral integrity, and personal responsibility.  Perhaps one day I'll be able create an actual curriculum for parents who prefer more structure and guidance, but for now, I hope the following lists will benefit any homeschool family who wants suggestions on specific resources by topic.

As I add to this page, I'll add more topics and additional resources will be added to each topic as we discover more wonderful books, educational games, movies, museums, and any other resource related to the topic.

Here's how to use the lists:  Let's say you are preparing to study the American Revolution with your student(s).  Click on the topic "American Revolution."  You'll find books, movies, audio CDs and any other resources that we have USED that are related to this topic.  There will also be times when I make activity suggestions such as things you can do at home, historic sites to visit, etc.  Use any or all of the resources.  Do some of the activities or none.  I simply wanted to have a place where it would be easier for homeschoolers to find resources related to a particular topic and create your own unit studies at home for a few days or even a whole semester.
